Investments and Computers
(not necessarily in that order)

I outgrew the free space given to me as part of an overpriced package offered by my local cable provider who has a legislatively ordained monopoly in my market place. That’s another story though right along with my phone bill. I’m just about ready to go wired and be done with wireless. Anyway to get back on point, I created this site to have one location for my collection of files and links I use on a daily basis.

Along the way I decided why not share what I could on the subject of investing and computers so that maybe one person normally intimidated by these topics would feel at ease to maybe investigate them further. They are not as complicated as they may appear. Much the same as a two year old, they may be aggravating at times but not complicated.

I am a person of modest means who, after being on the less rewarding end of a company buyout, decided early on that I would like to retire at 55 and start saving as though my life depended on it. Then around 15 years later I got serious about it. So working towards that goal and after so many hours online to my chagrin I actually picked up a thing or two about the topic of investing and computers.

I actually enjoy the little leisure time I have to twitter away on the computer learning about different topics. Unless COPS is on, then the computing stops and I’m a TV viewer once again. I can’t get enough of watching people dumber (or drunker) than me having their issues play out in my living room. It’s very uplifting when you’re reaching for any comparison to make your own lawn look a little greener and I always seem to be reaching.

Now my 4 Don'ts

Don’t be paralyzed by the fear of inexperience. Schooling always cost money whether it’s a Harvard education or a diploma earned at the school of hard knocks. Just be sure to enroll one semester at a time and show up for the first few classes empty handed so you don’t waste money on books for classes you may decide to drop.

Don’t be discouraged by the torture of trying to gain new skill sets. If you’re like me just be sure to stock up on some plaster patch and put up low clearance signs to keep injuries of innocent bystanders to a minimum. I also use the mantra by Lloyd Shearer on stressful days called “A Guide to a Happy Life”. It comes in handy if you reach the point that you can no longer hang low clearance signs because the walls are primarily comprised of plaster patches.

Don’t be blinded by the jargon that is ramped in both topics and slung like mud in a pen of wild bores (or boars). Keep the faith. You do know the English language. Its just that some people are not speaking a lot of the more common verbage in order to communicate certain points. As you proceed down the path of knowledge this strange language will spill from your own lips like a New Yorker with a new found Southern drawl.

Finally, Don't use your new found Southern drawl to become a wild bore of your own or for unscrupulous or unethical means. That's called a shyster and the planet has enough of them already in these areas. Instead use your skills to pull others up along with you and remain open to new ideas when challenged. The smartest people are the ones not afraid to not know.
